Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) is intended
for patients who suffer from chronic sinusitis. Sinusitis patients experience
facial fullness, pain, headaches, postnasal drip and constant difficulty
breathing through the nose. If these symptoms cannot be helped with antibiotics
or other therapy, a FESS is recommended. During the procedure, endoscopes
are used to target the primary location of the disease and the problematic
tissue is removed. This will allow the sinuses to drain naturally and
not harbor infection. 80% of patients require only one procedure. A FESS
is performed in an outpatient setting and takes approximately one hour.
Recovery time is between five to fourteen days. Septoplasty and / or Laser
Turbinate Reduction often compliment a FESS to dramatically improve breathing. Back to Medical Services Procedures
